The Amersham Arms New Cross

The Amersham Arms used to be my local Pub when I lived in Brockley for a few years. And even when you don’t live South it’s definitely worth a visit. Run by the same people who run Camden’s The Lock Tavern the pub oozes art student hipster bourgeoisie.

It has the unique ability to transform itself from an ordinary pub into a small club, a DJ night, a standup comedy stage or anything in between depending on the day of the week.

They do some decent and very affordable food plus a few cocktails that are good and sometimes amazing if the barkeeper is in a joyful mood.

Go there if you want to immerse yourself in a young and vibrant, creative scene outside of Central London that comes with all the kitsch-meets-vintage attitude – without the pretentiousness of Shoreditch High Street. If you’re lucky enough, you might even be able to sit on one of their comfy leather sofas and spend the afternoon having a few pints and playing board games.

Feel free to check out their website for more information about the pub and for their event listing.
